Weigh in on the theory: Charlize Theron plays Marilyn Monroe

Charlize Theron as Marilyn Monroe? The mind boggles. Let’s compare. Tall and statuesque Charlize at 5′ 10″, versus smaller and curvier Marilyn at 5′ 5″.

If anyone can do it, Charlize can. She won the Academy Award playing serial killer, Aileen Wuornos, in Monster, a sizzling agent in Atomic Blonde, and alpha heroine, Imperator Furiosa, in Mad Max, and so many more. She has acting chops.

Laurence Olivier was famous for insulting Marilyn with his gaffe, “Try and be sexy”. She didn’t have to try. She simply turned on a switch and the camera fell in love, projecting her beauty, vulnerability, and innocence. She is one of those icons loved by men AND women. But damn, Charlize looks good!

And if she can pull off the essence of Marilyn, the vulnerability, the tremulous voice, all will be well.

But they have to get the hair right!

And so do you. Ask for the Geo Palette Hair System, integrated with the new technology of Lumetrix Hair Color, to achieve spectacular results. Your hair color is your crowning glory. Marilyn Monroe will never be forgotten. Charlize Theron will triumph. But the hair  has to be perfect. And so does yours.

Hell’s bells for the film called “Elle”!

I rarely stand up and applaud a movie, and it’s even rarer that I “boo” one. But that’s how I felt when I finished watching Isabelle Huppert in ELLE, a movie about a woman who is assaulted, befriends her rapist, and lures him back to get raped again. I won’t give away the ending. But she’s in charge, sort of. I hated every character in it.

Which makes me wonder, if a narrative stays with you, does it mean you’ve experienced great filmmaking? No for Elle, and yes for the poetic/elegaic/hopeful/hopeless Moonlight, which has haunted me for weeks with its themes of connection, poverty, race bias, gender bias, and humanity.

Elle could possibly win an Oscar for best foreign picture. Ms Huppert certainly deserves one, and I heartily hope that she writhes on the floor and rids herself of the damages done as I hear she exorcised her demons in a past movie that she had completed. (Okay, you can see that I’m more Oscar the Grouch than Oscar award winning when it comes to THIS film.)

Of course, getting one’s hair colored is a different matter.  Viva the Geo Palette, with its reusable plastic Clearview subsections and no ph-altering foils. Get hair color that stays. Color that deserves applause. Oscar award caliber. No “boos”,  ever. -JC

James Brown: the Godfather of Soul

James Brown singer

The Great James Brown

Listening to some of James Brown’s band members…master trombonist, Fred Wesley, for one, James was a perfectionist, and yes, the hardest worker in show business. Christmas off? Maybe once in a while, but they were underpaid, and sometimes not at all, working every day and all day “until James got tired.” What came through the interview was their high regard for his artistry, that he could make a good band great, a mediocre melody totally new. He made his mark, time and again, despite the troubling reports about his abuse of women, despite the fact that his mother and father had abandoned him, despite his oddball politics…he was an artist.

Watch the special on HBO about the Godfather of Soul, on tonight. We need to remember what came before rap, what led the way in popular music, what we still go back to.

While you are at it, make your mark in hair color. The Geo Palette Hair System strives for perfectionism in the world of hair color…creative, innovative, cutting edge, whether it’s conventional or outside the box. Jimi or James, Basie or Ella, Mozart or Bach, Picasso or Modigliani, they all made a name from perfecting their art. Take the leap and get Geo Palette color.  -JC

Batchelorette vs. Bitchelorette: Desiree’s downfall

Every Monday, my daughter, niece, sister and I indulge in our guilty pleasure, watching the Bachelorette. As I watched Desiree tell Brooks, “I love you,” after he had just confessed that he wasn’t madly in love with her, I thought, “Whaaaaa?”  Why give him the satisfaction?

And as the two of them hugged and cried, and cried and hugged, and she said, “Don’t,” when he said he was sorry, I thought, “Do bitches have more fun?” And when Brooks told her that he didn’t miss her enough when he was away, shouldn’t Des have said, “There’s the door. I won’t miss you either.”?” Brooks confessed that love is heightened by a smidgeon of pain, no? Watching them gave us plenty of it!

Do bitches have more fun? Blondes do, when they get Geo Palette color, fabulous hair color that surpasses the traditional highlight. Brunettes do, with a richness and subtlety that is unrivaled. Redheads love the Geo Palette, with spice and aubergine and crimson blends. Dimension and shine. What more do we need for a rich life, besides money?

Desiree: come and get the Geo Palette. There are other better boys out there that will run towards you, not away.

(But he is cute, isn’t he?)

Real Housewives of “Nasty-to-each-other”!

I am a big fan of the Real Housewives franchise, from Beverly Hills to Orange County to New York City. But as I watched the New Jersey ladies wind down their season with Andy Cohen, the misery and anger in the air was palpable. I could have pounded it like the veal on their RV trip together.

Teresa’s oiled body was tense, her smile false, her apologies as fake as her boobs and eyelashes. Possible cheater Joe stood behind her like a coiled boa constrictor, ready to strike.

Caroline was still not talking to her sister Dina, and made remarks about family being everything. Misery and accusations prevailed.

Kindness was absent, and the film clips of the children made us sad as they acted out or reacted to the woes of their parents.

The befores and afters revealed the toll the program has taken on its’ participants. The ladies looked fresher and more innocent in the past. Anger makes us ugly, doesn’t it?

For fabulous befores and afters, come to Bewitched Salon in Woodmere, NY, and get the best hair color on the planet. Revolutionary color that surpasses the highlight, invented by Italian born George Mennella, and sure to turn misery into bliss. Your husband will only have eyes for you, your sister will talk to you again, and all will be right with the world…until the next new reality housewives episode hits the airwaves! Call 516 374-1490 for an appointment with GORGEOUS, and ask George, Fernando, MariaLisa or Nikki to give you the Geo Palette. www.geopalette.com -JC

Moon River lives on in our memories, long ago innocence calling out to us on a transistor radio…something kids today have never heard of.
Andy William’s smooth singing voice, with his “Can’t Get Used to Losing You” back in the sixties, was part of the oldster’s memories, but not as much a part of the present musical scene as legendary Tony Bennett. Different beloved singers with different approaches.

Richard Gere: the best gray hair in the business

I just watched Richard Gere in his new movie, Arbitrage, and despite his perfect family complete with mistress and mansion, mishandled money (read thievery) and moral ambiguity, yes, I rooted for him all the way.
He’s the best looking gray-haired hottie in the business.
But except for Richard and the gorgeous older model, Carmen, (duped out of her money by the morally bankrupt Bernie Madoff), gray hair is out, particularly for women.
Color is in, and lots of it…a pop of purple is big at Bewitched Salon in Woodmere, and the Geo Palette Color System is even bigger. Several shades in one sitting, so that blondes are richer, brunettes are more multi-dimensional, and redheads glow with gorgeousness!
Try the Geo Palette and get the best color on the planet. Call 516 374-1490 for an appointment to get color that surpasses the conventional highlight. Then go to the movies and root for Richard Gere! -JC

Your butt too big? Photoshop it.

I don’t know about you, but I’m thankful for the J-Lo’s and Kim K’s of the world, with their world famous derrieres that are “larger than life”.  Hurrah for the big booty that’s “booty-ful!”

But photoshopping out problem areas has become the norm, where lines, dips and hollows are miraculously erased, and fifty year old stars look like twenty year old ingenues. Human beings, (read “real women”), cannot compete.

Except for the hair. With the Geo Palette Color System, your hair will become younger, more vital, more dimensional, more fabulous than ever before. Sample the range of colors we offer…gorgeous blonds in several shades from honey to platinum, rich brunettes ranging from plum to chocolate, redheads that dazzle with luxurious copper iced with deep burgundy. “Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere…”(especially if they get the Geo Palette) – Helen Gurley Brown

Helen Gurley Brown spurred the sexual revolution by declaring that women could have it all…children, a career, and great sex. Whenever I heard her speak, I liked her flirty manner, her playfulness, and her quick wit. She was…well, girly, such an apt term for a woman with Gurley as a middle name.
She believed in men and women being nice to each other.
She believed in hard work, and playing hard as well.
She believed in love, and passion, and women wanting to have sex.
She would have loved the Geo Palette Color System…hair color that takes you everywhere, color that invites every woman to live life well.
Get the Geo Palette. Rest in peace, Helen Gurley Brown, and thank you for your iconic spirit. It lives on.

GROSS OILY HAIR and so many compliments! Who knew?

Focus on hair color (and ignore neck and chin)

On a day of errands and boring chores, I got a compliment from my dental hygienist on my hair color, and I said thank you.
But I thought she was crazy. I hadn’t washed it in six days, (okay, I bathe daily, so don’t be judging me.)
Then a jaunt to Bloomingdale’s, and I’m stopped in the aisle. My first thought was, this undercover Bloomie’s woman thinks I’ve stolen something.
No, where did you get your color done?
Then, in the dressing room where I’m lamenting my tummy, the Bloomie’s assistant hands me a bigger size and says, “I love your hair color!”
Out at the supermarket, and it’s the check-out girl who gives me an ode to my beautiful hair.
This oily mess?
Which goes to show that Geo Palette color shines through, time after time.
But I’m washing it today.
Give the Geo Palette Color System a whirl today…compliments will follow. Go to www.geopalette.com for info. Or call Bewitched in Woodmere, NY for an appointment with praise from strangers in the street. -JC  516 374-1490 or find a certified Geo Palette salon near you.
