Searching for a Crocus

For some of us, the winter was tough. Sunless, cold, a barrage of snowstorms, too much shoveling, rain, and general gloom. Our senses are looking for a splash of color I call “searching for a crocus”. Just like we need a bit of bright sun to warm us, we need a splash of color to ease us into a feeling of well being. We need a pink blossom to emerge from the cold ground. A smile in the mirror to get the endorphins going. A simple compliment, told to us by a stranger. An act of kindness. A new lipstick. A hearty laugh.

Or maybe a change of hair color. The Geo Palette Hair System has joined forces with a dynamic new color brand, Lumetrix, to give you that luxurious burst of color in time for spring. We are excited by the results, which range from natural sunkissed highlights to bright beautiful runway hues.

No foil to bake the hair, reusable Clearviews, kind to the planet, brilliant results. Colorists, try it. Clients, you will never go back to foil again.

Your choice, your pop of crocus, your invitation to a more gorgeous you. JC

Weigh in on the theory: Charlize Theron plays Marilyn Monroe

Charlize Theron as Marilyn Monroe? The mind boggles. Let’s compare. Tall and statuesque Charlize at 5′ 10″, versus smaller and curvier Marilyn at 5′ 5″.

If anyone can do it, Charlize can. She won the Academy Award playing serial killer, Aileen Wuornos, in Monster, a sizzling agent in Atomic Blonde, and alpha heroine, Imperator Furiosa, in Mad Max, and so many more. She has acting chops.

Laurence Olivier was famous for insulting Marilyn with his gaffe, “Try and be sexy”. She didn’t have to try. She simply turned on a switch and the camera fell in love, projecting her beauty, vulnerability, and innocence. She is one of those icons loved by men AND women. But damn, Charlize looks good!

And if she can pull off the essence of Marilyn, the vulnerability, the tremulous voice, all will be well.

But they have to get the hair right!

And so do you. Ask for the Geo Palette Hair System, integrated with the new technology of Lumetrix Hair Color, to achieve spectacular results. Your hair color is your crowning glory. Marilyn Monroe will never be forgotten. Charlize Theron will triumph. But the hair  has to be perfect. And so does yours.

Was it my shape or my hair color?

I was trying to cross a busy street to get to work, and a truck stopped to let me pass. Smiling, I pointed in the other direction, as another truck and several cars were speeding down the road. The second truck stopped as well.

Must be my short skirt, I thought, quite pleased with myself. But as the first vehicle passed, the driver called out, “Nice hair!”

He had a discerning eye, because I had just had my color done.

Not to be excluded, the other driver rolled down his window and said, “Keep smiling!”

I had to laugh. My hair. My smile. It had nothing to do with my short skirt at all.

But I do love my Geo Palette color. My hair looks healthier, the color more brilliant, and that makes me smile. -JC

Tomato Love

photo-6  I looked at my tomato with love today. It had morphed in front of my eyes. It was red, my favorite color, but it had become a heart. So ordinary, yet so extraordinary, it was pleasing to the eye.

Change up your hair color. Make an ordinary red become extraordinary with the Geo Palette Hair System. Add some pumpkin, or spice, or mahogany or aubergine. A pinch of cayenne pepper, or a twist of paprika. A celebration of hair color, in time for Thanksgiving.

The Geo Palette team wishes all of you, everywhere, a sweet holiday full of love, and change, and and beauty, and art.

A tomato with heart. Something different. Be thankful and celebrate life, every day.

James Brown: the Godfather of Soul

James Brown singer

The Great James Brown

Listening to some of James Brown’s band members…master trombonist, Fred Wesley, for one, James was a perfectionist, and yes, the hardest worker in show business. Christmas off? Maybe once in a while, but they were underpaid, and sometimes not at all, working every day and all day “until James got tired.” What came through the interview was their high regard for his artistry, that he could make a good band great, a mediocre melody totally new. He made his mark, time and again, despite the troubling reports about his abuse of women, despite the fact that his mother and father had abandoned him, despite his oddball politics…he was an artist.

Watch the special on HBO about the Godfather of Soul, on tonight. We need to remember what came before rap, what led the way in popular music, what we still go back to.

While you are at it, make your mark in hair color. The Geo Palette Hair System strives for perfectionism in the world of hair color…creative, innovative, cutting edge, whether it’s conventional or outside the box. Jimi or James, Basie or Ella, Mozart or Bach, Picasso or Modigliani, they all made a name from perfecting their art. Take the leap and get Geo Palette color.  -JC

That coat was calling my name…

I am not an Ann Taylor Loft kind of girl. It’s my sister’s favorite store. I’m a small boutique with an eclectic mix kind of person, anything anti-mall. But I was out shopping with Bara and when I walked in, a blue leopard coat looked me straight in the eye, and called my name. “Try me! Buy me!”
And I did.
Which brings us to my hair. If a day goes by, and no one compliments my hair color, I need another Geo Palette. Because my hair and my lipstick are my signature style, and I need the supermarket checkout girl, the stewardess, the banker teller, and the pharmacist to compliment me every day.
Get Geo Palette color. It is calling your name. Embrace your vanity.

“You can lead a whore to culture, but you can’t make her think…”

TulipsA beautiful glass bowl of tulips has been sitting at my desk. A client asked how I tended to them, and I replied, “Add water and try not to kill. I’m not a good horticulturalist.” He surprised me by quoting Dorothy Parker: “You can lead a whore to culture, but you can’t make her think.”

Huh? Who knew he had it in him to know the work of pithy Dorothy?

You can lead a girl to the best color in the industry, and if she’s smart, she’ll ask for the Geo Palette…multi-dimensional, rich, and simply gorgeous!

Okay, I’m not Dorothy Parker. But my mother’s name was Dorothy. Does that count? -JC

“I’m a writter, too,” he posted. Really?

"A rose as sweet..."

“A rose as sweet…”

I’m a spelling snob. Misspellings make me crazy, and help me decide if the email from supposed Citibank is REALLY Citibank! One misplaced space, and I send it straight to the fraud department. And I’m always right. If a playwright calls himself a playwrite, is he just a poor speller? My ex-husband couldn’t spell, and defended himself by telling me that the poet W. B. Yeats couldn’t either.

So perhaps my writter friend is really a writer. But it’s such a fundamental word to get wrong, isn’t it? Does he read, I wonder?

The Geo Palette is often creatively spelled. “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Juliet believes that the name doesn’t really matter…does the spelling?

Get the Geo Palette Hair System for the best color on the planet…spell it any way you like, as long as you experience its’ glorious color. I promise to keep my mouth shut. -JC
