Charlize Theron gains fifty pounds for role as mother…I eat a roll and gain five.

I just saw a zahtig Charlize Theron in Tully, a movie about the torture of having an infant and being pulled in every direction and overeating and sleep deprivation and depression, but don’t get me started. I told my pregnant daughter to avoid watching it at ALL COSTS.

Charlize gained fifty pounds for the role, because that’s what she does. She gives her all. She confessed that the weight gain was brutal, and that the overdosing of sugar and processed foods made her fall into a deep depression. I fall into a deep depression when I gain two pounds, just looking in the mirror, so I feel for her.

But when I got my color done the other day, and a fresh cut and blowout, despite the fact that I judged myself staring at my reflection, wearing the slice of pizza I’d eaten the night before, I felt like a million bucks.

So go for the Geo Palette Hair System, get pristine color with Lumetrix and George Mennella, and you won’t see the weight gain. You will simply see gorgeous hair.

Charlize, on the other hand, is skinny again. I will have spinach and a piece of palm-sized chicken for dinner. -JC

We’ve come a long way, Ingrid Bergman

My father, bless him, used to tell me that I looked like Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly. I didn’t and I don’t. If he had been alive to watch the show, The Good Wife, he might have likened me to Christine Baranski…less a movie star and more a character actress with attractive flaws.

I was mesmerized by all things Hollywood, despite my mother’s disdain for “that hoofer, Fred Astaire”, or even my all time favorite, Marilyn Monroe. My mother’s opinion resembled Laurence Olivier’s, who before his overacting debut in The Prince and the Showgirl, mortified my idol by telling her, “All you have to do is be sexy, dear Marilyn.” The camera, forever loyal, loved her, and Marilyn stole the show.

But I digress. Ingrid Bergman, my father’s favorite and at the top of my list, was a star from another era. Luminous in Gaslight, exciting in Notorious, lovestruck in Casablanca, beautiful in Spellbound, she scandalized the world by an affair and then marriage with Roberto Rossellini. Forced to remain in Europe for several years, she was denounced on the floor of the US Senate. Ed Sullivan refused to have her on his show, despite polls indicating that the public was ready.

At last, America forgave her. In 1956, she returned to make the film, Anastasia in 1956, winning her second Academy Award.

Yesterday, at the post office, I purchased a book of Ingrid Bergman stamps with genuine pleasure. Bravo, Ingrid. I have always loved you.

GROSS OILY HAIR and so many compliments! Who knew?

Focus on hair color (and ignore neck and chin)

On a day of errands and boring chores, I got a compliment from my dental hygienist on my hair color, and I said thank you.
But I thought she was crazy. I hadn’t washed it in six days, (okay, I bathe daily, so don’t be judging me.)
Then a jaunt to Bloomingdale’s, and I’m stopped in the aisle. My first thought was, this undercover Bloomie’s woman thinks I’ve stolen something.
No, where did you get your color done?
Then, in the dressing room where I’m lamenting my tummy, the Bloomie’s assistant hands me a bigger size and says, “I love your hair color!”
Out at the supermarket, and it’s the check-out girl who gives me an ode to my beautiful hair.
This oily mess?
Which goes to show that Geo Palette color shines through, time after time.
But I’m washing it today.
Give the Geo Palette Color System a whirl today…compliments will follow. Go to www.geopalette.com for info. Or call Bewitched in Woodmere, NY for an appointment with praise from strangers in the street. -JC  516 374-1490 or find a certified Geo Palette salon near you.

The Tanning Salon Detective: Who colors all the blondes that come here?

I got a call from a tanning salon, inquiring about her blond clients. It seems that their hair color, ranging in tonality from wheat to honey to white-yellow, is superb. Where did they get their color done, and why did it look so different?
I explained that the difference was the Geo Palette…multi-dimensional color in several tonalities using the Geo Palette color system applied by Geo Palette artists. Maria Lisa at Bewitched Salon gave her blondes that certain something…resulting in superb color. The inventor, George Mennella, continued to perfect the art of the Geo Palette. Exquisite color that your local tanning salon will notice, tan or no tan. -JC

Once upon a time, there was a young lady…

Once upon a time, there was a young lady who gave and gave. She gave to her friends who were in need. She gave to her parents, who had already given to her. She gave to the planet, which had served her so well.
She was all given out.
Pale and wan, she walked into Bewitched Salon, in the little town of Woodmere.
“I’ve given and given,” she said to the color professionals. “My hair is dull and lifeless. I can’t give any more.”
“We know what to do,” said the Bewitched color therapist.
They had her sit on a throne, and gave her fresh coffee and festive cookies. They painted and colored, cut and styled, and the Geo Palette transformation was done…glowing color like never before. She radiated light and beauty, and floated out of the shop, ready to resume her holiday festivities.
Give yourself the gift of the Geo Palette. Renew your spirit, and enhance your hair.
And happy holidays from all of us at Bewitched Salon.

Her Blondness and her Highness: Morphing Marilyn Monroe

I didn’t expect to love Michelle Williams’s portrayal of my favorite movie legend, Marilyn Monroe. I expected to be dismissive.

Instead, I was entranced. I believed her power to seduce everyone in sight, except for Sir Laurence Olivier, who dismissed her with the words, “Do what you do best. Act sexy,” or something like that, offensive and careless.

I believed Julia Ormond, who played Olivier’s wife, Vivian Leigh, sobbing in front of the rushes that showed Marilyn’s younger beauty, reflecting on the loss of her own.

I believed Eddie Redmayne playing Colin Clark, in love with Marilyn and totally in her power, his eyes lit from within whenever he saw her.

I sat in my seat as the credits ran, teary and nostalgic, carried back to my teen years reading the headlines that Marilyn Monroe had died.
Marilyn and Michelle had bewitched me once more, for an hour and a half of cinematic bliss.

For bewitchment of another kind, come to Bewitched in Woodmere, NY to get the Geo Palette, revolutionary hair color that surpasses the highlight. If Vivian had tried our new color system, she might have looked ten years younger. Call us for an appointment at 516 374-1490. Hollywood may haunt us, but years later, our hair color has never looked better.
Morph your favorite actress and be the star of your own life, with the Geo Palette, at 956 Broadway, Woodmere, NY or at any palette certified salon.

Kim Kardashian channeling Liz Taylor? Bling, boys and bye bye…

Cynics and skeptics tell me that Kim K. made bundles from her ten million dollar wedding…that she did it for the money. Certainly her mother is an excellent businesswoman, lining the Kardashian pockets with great business deals for the dynasty she created.

But Kim is in love with being in love. And being in love has little to do with living with someone. She and Elizabeth Taylor have a lot in common: a fondness for bling and boys. Liz married whomever she fell in love with, whatever the consequences. Kim liked the idea of a big wedding to a big lug who bucked her family.

Not to mention three wedding gowns. If reality shows are not reality, how come most of us could see that Kim and the Big Lug were destined to fail? Her ambition soared so far beyond him that it would never work.

What will work is hair color that is radically new. The Geo Palette Hair System is available at our flagship salon, Bewitched Salon, at Bewitched in Woodmere, and in various parts of the United States.

Call us at Bewitched Salon, at 956 Broadway, Fresh Meadows, NY, for an appointment with the Geo Palette. Color that lasts longer than Kim’s wedding…yes, longer than 72 days! -JC

Japanese men like girls with a snaggletooth: does imperfection make them perfect?

Here in America, we whiten and brighten. A good friend came back from a long trip away with breast implants, a tummy tuck, and teeth whiter than chiclets. Or, as another friend put it, teeth like yogurt. They dazzled us so much, we shielded our eyes.

But in Japan, it seems, a new fashion has women paying to have their teeth re-arranged. No punches involved. Just dental surgery that results in “fangs”, a look called yaeba that men find attractive. Did you know that crooked teeth have an endearing factor, and make women more approachable?

But if the man finds it cute, I ask, does the woman? Does she feel like the perfect object of desire, with teeth made crooked? Does she feel better about herself, pleasing the man by looking more imperfect?

I give up. Come in and get perfect color with the Geo Palette instead. Everyone will compliment you, men and women. And after that, if you want imperfection…just mess up your hair. -JC

Spirits soar at the Jone’s Beach Walk (and so did my hair.)

I did my first walk for a cure for breast cancer at Jone’s Beach on Sunday. It was a fabulous people watching day. Packs of raucous boys and sweet faced girls, saucy ladies and steadfast elders walked with the same determination in mind: curing a cancer that takes away our loved ones. Some somber duos carried photos, some donned fuschia boas, or wore pink ribbons bejeweled on their cheeks.

My group of seven called themselves the Clamdiggers. Don’t ask. We laughed a lot and celebrated beforehand with Eggs Benedict that did a dance in my belly for the first three miles. Walking fast was not an option, there were so many people.

Wearing a hoody for an hour or so gave me hat hair for the day, but didn’t dim the feeling that we will persevere, year after year, until the whispered C word dwindles into nothing.

For great hair, come to Bewitched Salon at 956 Broadway, Fresh Meadows, NY. For fabulous revolutionary color, try the Geo Palette here…surpassing traditional highlights with dynamite results, only available at Geo Palette certified salons: Bewitched Salon (flagship salon), Bewitched in Woodmere (MariaLisa is wonderful), Ani at Regis in Huntington, Carlo at C3, and other certified salons.

See you next year at Jone’s Beach, for “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”.

Glitter: It’s superficial, but how we love it!

Jennifer, our glitter girl

Little girls love glitter and so do big girls. From Byzantine mosaics to strands of tinsel that deck our hair, we are mesmerized by shine. And we’re not alone. Cleopatra loved it, and so did Queen Elizabeth. Henry the VIII bedecked himself with precious stones, but shine has history, doesn’t it?

We follow in their enormous footsteps with haute couture fashion, fabulous makeup, and bedazzled body parts. From the Renaissance to Alexander McQueen, we spin our own web of shine with longer earrings, brighter fabrics, over-sized jewels and hair that dazzles us with shine.

For fabulous hair color that will go down in history, try the Geo Palette Hair System. Our clients love it. Stylists embrace it for the artistry it offers them.

Go to www.geopalette.com or call us at 516 374-1490 to schedule an appointment at Bewitched Salon with one of our shine afficionados. 956 Broadway, Fresh Meadows, NY.

All that glitters is not gold—but oh, how it’s beautiful to behold! -JC
