We had a new client come into Bewitched today, and she wasn’t popular. She glowered at the shampoo person, and wasn’t much nicer to the manicurist. But when she walked toward me, she glided, so gracefully, I couldn’t keep my eyes off her. I told her so, and she lit up, her smile my reward.
After that, she was sweeter to everyone.
From now on, if I THINK it, I say it. I might make someone’s day, and in the process, she might make our day better.

Most of us at Bewitched love dear Snookie from the Jersey Shore reality show…even though, as a hair salon, we don’t particularly endorse the poof. But Snookie herself isn’t wearing it as much, and we are noticing that eighties big hair IS coming back.

Our beef, and not the kind plastered all over Lady Gaga, is whether a group of kids, however nice they are, deserve the fame and notoriety they are receiving. They’re not role models. They aren’t particularly well read. They don’t endorse causes like “It will get better”, when it comes to gay teenagers being harassed. The boys cook, which is nice, but they smush alot, and not with much of a selection process. Of course, the girls they bed down with are equally agreeable, so why quibble?

But as ordinary young people, do they deserve their fame? Should they be walking the Red Carpet without acting skills, comedy gifts, writing talent under their belt? Are we applauding the bedding down, the fist fights, the bitch slapping, the drunken antics and petty jealousies of real life? We are fascinated by it, that’s for sure.

Today I woke up to a bowl of oatmeal without my blueberries. A lack of memory has been plaguing me lately, and I know I can blame it on lots of things. My age. Overload. Stress. Too much reality t.v. The list goes on.

So I raced to the supermarket only to find that blueberries have gone up to five dollars for a small carton. The raspberries were $1.99. But I don’t think they help your memory. (I looked it up, but who can remember?)

I figured I’d ration them out, twenty blueberries a bowl, and make the carton last.

Or maybe, if I’m lucky, I’ll forget how much I paid for the blueberries that will improve my memory.

What I DO remember is that I’ve never gotten more compliments on my hair, following my recent Geo Palette color. It’s the most revolutionary new color system anywhere, and I actually had someone follow me into Gristedes in NYC to ask where I got my color done. When I told her Bewitched Salon in Woodmere, she looked at me as though I wanted her to fly to the moon. Here at Bewitched, clients are frazzled and frizzy from the nasty weather. Sinis headaches linger as the rain drizzles on. We give them coffee and bagels, an advil or two, and a keratin treatment to lift their spirits.
